Kansai International Airport

Domestics and International airports

Kansai International Airport, the largest in the Kansai region, is located on a manmade island in the middle of Osaka Bay approximately 50 kilometers in a southeastern direction from Osaka City. It was made by reclaiming land from the sea at a location 5 kilometers off the coast.

In terms of access from Osaka City, it takes about 65 minutes by express train from Osaka Station on the JR line and about 45 minutes by limited express train from Namba Station on the Nankai Electric Railway line. As for bus routes, there are those that run from major areas in Osaka such as Osaka Station, Namba, and USJ while there also are others that start from respective areas in Kansai as well as Shikoku. Going to the airport is also convenient from Kobe since there is a high-speed boat that takes only 30 minutes to get there. There are many food establishments and concession stands in the airport terminal and some of the stores are opened 24 hours. Additionally, there are business centers as well as Korean-based internet terminals that are operated by coins. International flight passengers can enjoy shopping at the 20 or so duty-free shops that are found after going through the embarkation procedures. There are a few policemen in the police station who understand English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean. As maintenance costs for airport facilities, Kansai International Airport requires each person to pay a passenger service facility charge (PSFC) of 2,650 yen upon departure. There are convention halls and a hotel in the Aero Plaza that is located next to the terminal. At Sky View, you can see many passenger airplanes from around the world while beautiful illuminations decorating the observation deck at nighttime is an enjoyable sight indeed. There also are stores that sell airplane-related literature, accessories, and secondhand measuring instruments. Various experience-type attractions based on the theme of airplanes are also conducted for children. Kansai International Airport also offers a bus tour that takes you everywhere in the airport and in some cases, fun events featuring Cosplay or other attractive themes are conducted.
