Naha Airport

Domestics and International airports

Okinawa, the westernmost prefecture of Japan, is made up of several islands. Naha Airport is located approximately 12 minutes by monorail from the central area of Naha City (prefectural capital) on the main island. This airport is Japan's southern air gateway that offers international routes to Taiwan, Korea, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. As for domestic flights, it serves as stopover when going to major cities in other regions or to the remote islands of Okinawa. Because there are many flights running between Tokyo and Naha, the airport's overall numbers of flights and passengers are constantly increasing.

An atmosphere unique to Okinawa is evident in the airport terminal where food establishments serve local cuisine such as Goya (bitter gourd) dishes and Soki Soba (Okinawa-style noodles) while the prefecture's specialties are sure to catch your attention at the souvenir shops. Naha Airport is the only one in the country allowed by special laws to open duty-free shops in the domestic line terminal. Additionally, going to the observation deck is not free of charge. In 2003, the operation of the monorail, the first railroad in Okinawa, began and actualized easy access to the area around Naha City as a result.

Additionally, taking the express bus allows convenient transportation to Naha Bus Terminal in 20 minutes. The buses offer many routes through the island and serve as its main mode of transportation. The Naha Bus Terminal, as the island's largest transportation base, also offers many routes that take you here and there. Moreover, tourists can use the airport limousine bus service that will take them to resort hotels and beaches from the airport.
