Narita International Airport

Domestics and International airports

Narita International Airport (commonly called "Narita Airport") is located in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, approximately 60 kilometers to the east of Tokyo. Following Haneda Airport, this large airport boasts the second highest number of passengers as well as number of flights. Indeed, it serves as Japan's air gateway by offering many routes to different countries.

Narita Airport has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. A free shuttle service that runs approximately every 10 minutes takes passengers from one terminal to the other. You also have to note that the certain terminal you need to go to depends on the airline company you have chosen (north and south wings of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2).

When taking the train, please get off at Narita Airport Station for Terminal 1 and Kuko Daini Biru Station for Terminal 2. There are a variety of food establishments and souvenir stores as well as currency exchange counters in both terminals. Additionally, shopping can be enjoyed at the duty-free shops after going through the embarkation procedures. Although there is no place to spend the night in the airport, you can find a number of major hotels nearby. At Narita Airport, each person is charged a passenger service facilities charge (PSFC) of 2,040 yen as maintenance costs when leaving the country. As for access from the center of Tokyo to the airport by train, it takes about an hour from Tokyo Station on the JR Line as well as from Keisei Ueno Station on the Keisei Electric Railway Line. Express buses called limousine buses connect the various stations and hotels in Tokyo to Narita Airport. Such buses also run from major cities around Tokyo and even from the Mt. Fuji prefectures of Yamanashi and Shizuoka. Although taxis also take you to Narita Airport from Tokyo at a flat rate (approximately 20,000 yen), a separate expressway toll and late-night fee (if applicable) may also be charged. Since not many domestic flights fly out of Narita Airport, more people choose to take domestic flights leaving Haneda Airport if they have to catch connecting flights to go to cities in other regions. The airports are not close to each other. Therefore, to catch a connecting flight, you will need about three hours because it takes approximately 110 minutes by train and 75 minutes by limousine bus. When going to regional cities after arriving from overseas and catching a connecting flight, it would be more convenient to use Kansai International Airport or Chubu International Airport.
