Highway Bus Linking Ibaraki Airport and Tokyo Station

Kanto Railway Co LtdThe first highway bus connecting Ibaraki Airport in Ome City, Ibaraki Prefecture and Tokyo Station in central Tokyo has commenced yesterday on May 27. As a move to expand its service and to promote the use of the newly-opened Ibaraki Airport, the prefecture government has decided to introduce the highway bus service allowing for better access to central Tokyo.

The 3 run-daily shuttle service operated by Kanto Railway Co Ltd (headquarters based in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki) has timed the departure and arrival time based on the flight schedule the airport is currently hosting, with 2 international flight services to Seoul and a domestic flight service to Kobe. Check the schedule below for arrival/departure times. The journey time takes between 1h40min to 2h30m.

Ticket is priced at 500yen one-way (for passengers arriving or departing for flight) and 1000yen one-way (for non-passengers). Prior reservation is required. (Tel: 029-247-5111 Mito reservation office / office hours: 9:00h ~19:00h )

Enjoy Tsukiji at the Odakyu Department Store in Shinjuku

tuna cutting demonstrationDubbed the Japan’s Kitchen: Gourment tastes of Tsukiji, a Tsukiji-themed product fair gathering selected stalls from Tsukiji will be held at the event space on the 11th floor and at the fresh foods section on the 2nd basement floor in the main building of the Odakyu Department Store in Shinjuku. Event starts from Thursday May27 through Tuesday, June 1. This event is held annually and has attracted many food lovers in the country.

The Tsukiji Market is known for its many varieties of fresh produces coming from all over Japan and the world. This year’s fair will include not only establishments around Tsukiji that specialize in fresh meats, fish, and vegetables, but it will also include other varieties of shops specializing in yakitori, dango, ramen, and much more. During the fair there will be 8 eat-in stores full of the Tsukiji atmosphere, including a tuna-specializing store offering magurodon (tuna rice bowl), a long-established sushi restaurant offering their nigiri (hand-formed) sushi, as well as a shop specializing in chicken dishes with over 100 years of history offering their oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl). In addition, there will be a demonstration on the cutting of fresh bluefin tuna in a Tsukiji-style lively atmosphere at the fresh foods section on the 2nd basement floor.

There is no need to travel all the way to Tsukiji to sample the mouth-watering taste of fresh seafood and you can experience the atmospehere of Tsukiji, see the special skills and taste the gourmets of famous and popular Tsukiji establishments at Odakyu Department Store at the heart of Shinjuku directly above Shinjuku Station.
