logo_siaWith the opening of Haneda Runway D in the later half of the year enabling an expansion of 30,000 landing and take-off slots annually, Singapore Airlines has been awarded the rights to operate twice-daily flights between Singapore Changi Airport and Tokyo Haneda Airport in October, following Seoul, HongKong and Beijing commenced flights started just a few months ago.

Singapore Airlines currently operates flights to Singapore from Narita, Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka, making Haneda route the fifth to Japan although it has dropped a few routes in the last 10 years to Sendai and Hiroshima via Fukuoka. This new route will complement the current twice-daily Tokyo Narita services, one of which continues on to Los Angeles. Flights to both airports will enable much better connections to other cities and through its alliance partner ANA, reaching out even further.

No details were released as to flight times or aircraft type. A late-night and noon departure time will likely fit the schedule well. The forth runway is capable to allow jumbo jets to land and take off, as such it will be likely that Singapore Airlines will mount its Airbus 380 if not the Boeing 777-300 on this sector.
